ANDRA SUPER STREET CHAMPION: LISA GARBELLINI

Paul Garbellini was planning to defend his National Super Street Champion but it was his wife Lisa that won the championship with Paul in second. Lisa started her season the prefect way with back to back wins in Darwin and Alice Springs.Lisa also finished second in the WA Suspensions Super Street Championship with Paul in third.

We asked them a few questions about their impressive season.

Lisa, Congratulations on winning the National Super Street Championship, what does mean to win your first national championship?

Winning the National Super Street Championship means alot, it is still sort of sinking in. Having number 1 on the car keeps reminding me though. At the start i never thought id be even getting past the first round because i let the pressure/nerves get to me, but being on holidays made it feel different and i just did my best and took it one race at a time. Just being able to have to opportunity the race at other tracks around the country in my own car was a dream come true, then to win both Darwin and Alice Springs was amazing. Definitely ticked that off the bucket list.

Paul & Lisa, 1-2 Finish in the championship, Did you guys ever think that was possible?

I guess anything is possible but going into this season the plan was for Paul to back up his championship from the year before. but as a surprise he organised for Gordon Crawford to transport my car up to the NT to experience it myself. obviously we went there with the idea of trying to win and lucky enough it worked out that way. from then on we had a good jump on the championship points and then covid kicked in and slowed everything down. but with a few rounds in WA we were about to score enough points to secure the first husband & wife 1&2 in Australian Drag Racing.

Paul & Lisa, What was the highlight of both your seasons?

The highlight would have to be Lisa winning at Darwin. The emotion of it all, have good people around us to celebrate it with. You can't ask for much more than that. and then to take home the 1&2 at a home Grand Final that was an absolute cracker of an event was amazing.

What are you plans for next season?

The plans for next season aren't set in stone yet. But Lisa will keep racing Super Street in WA and I might sneak in a round here and there if work allows. If one of us does well at the summit rounds we might think about travelling and trying our chances and another championship. but for me I won't be racing the full season as I have purchased a rear engine dragster and I am going to try and focus on getting that going.

Who would you like to thank?

We would like to thank Mitch and Deb at WA Performance .

Josh at LSX Powertrain.
